We are a health driven gender and social justice organization working with partners and allies across the globe to build healthy, just and peaceful communities in Kenya. Since our founding in 1998, we have been carrying out health, education and security sector programs that are well guided by national vision, regional priorities and international development goals.
Fostering habitable grassroots communities since 1998
At SOWED Kenya we value collaboration through our membership in cross-sectoral and multi-disciplinary networks which provide technical backstopping, capacity support and voice amplification, particularly for our advocacy activities in Kenya and beyond.
We have a track record of delivering high stake projects in complex and delicate dynamics that spans 20 years. Our experience in managing grants and goodwill is demonstrated by the portfolio of development partners and the sound relationship that we have harnessed with our donors who include Global Fund Systems, Department for International Development (DFID), United Nations, Oxfam, Urgent Action Funds Africa, CorStone-USA, Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI/MRC), Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), Global Center on Cooperative Security, Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE), and Options Consultancy.
We have well tested internal controls built through numerous institutional capacity strengthening exercises which have resulted in good governance policies, model stakeholder engagement strategy, and smart management practices.
We have a five member executive committee and an advisory board of 5 non-executive directors who are seconded from SOWED International Consultancy Services Ltd, an associate firm of SOWED Kenya established to support the organization’s financial sustainability.
Our secretariat is managed by a multidisciplinary team of competent staffs who are accomplished in various professional fields. The secretariat is supported by a pool of consultants and projects and community resource persons. Additionally, the secretariat works through strategic, development and implementing partnerships, a model for projects sustainability.
We seek to foster habitable grassroots communities that are free from diseases, inequalities, exclusion, exploitation and violence.
